God will keep you if you want to be kept, but will you Keep Him?
Many of us have heard our grandparents and elders say, “God will keep you if you want to be kept.” Like myself, I pray you live long enough to experience this for yourself. But we, (and in “we” I am included and may put myself at the forefront), often neglect to ask ourselves “how are we keeping God?”
God is faithful, even when we are not. We know that. God makes a way, even when we need a way to be made because of our disobedience. (Whew, that one hits deep on a personal level for me.) But we say with great pleasure that God will keep you if you want to be kept, but today the question erupting in my spirit is:
How many of us are dedicated to “keeping God?” And when I say “keeping God,” I mean how many of us will:
- Keep God’s word?
- Keep God present in our lives and in all we do, from our thoughts, actions, and deeds?
- Keep God’s commandments?
- Keep communing with God?
- Keep applying His Word to our lives?
- Keep seeking God’s guidance?
- Keep praying?
- Keep our focus on the things that concern God more than what concerns us?
- Keep His love in our hearts and model His love?
I could go on and on, but that’s the point? We who call ourselves Christians have work to do. And it is only right that when I say “we,” I keep myself at the forefront. You should do the same when you read this and if it resonates with you. Why?
It’s easy to read these words and stand in judgment. You can view me and ask how dare I? You can not even know me and ask how dare I write such a thing? Who am I to ask these questions, etc? And that is the problem.
The Bible instructs us to:
- Philippians 2:12-13, KJV: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
- 1 Peter 4:18-19, KJV: And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Simply put, beloved, God sent a word today and told me to share it. I received the Word and am committed to applying it to my life with His help and guidance. I invite you to seek God first and do the same.
Deeper depths and higher heights be unto you. May God bless you as you seek Him and He provides revelation. Amen.
